Watford Premier V Comberton – 15/03/09
Having convincingly beaten Comberton earlier in the season Watford Premier were hoping to put in another strong performance and take the points.
Both teams started slowly but Watford Premier managed to edge the first quarter with a two-goal lead. Better focus and accurate passing allowed the home team to extend the lead to four goals at the halfway point.
Captain Kim Lamden was drafted in at Centre for the second half and Louise Twyman and Pippa Parkes exchanged positions in the shooting circle.
Comberton continued to battle through out the second half and their defence, in particular their Goal Keeper made a number of interceptions.
Both teams struggled to find their range but Watford Premier’s shooter Louise Twyman made key rebounds and dazzled with her skill at saving the ball from the back line.
Gabrielle Stevens worked tirelessly from start to finish in shutting the Comberton’s Wing Attack out of the game and driving the ball through the court, while Mel Gregory attacked the circle and released the ball accurately and swiftly to the Watford Premier shooters.
Watford Premier’s defence increased their pressure towards the end to close out the final quarter. Sian Williams and Tina Duff forced Comberton’s attack into errors, which limited their shots on goal and led to another win for Watford Premier 33 – 26.
