Certificate Course Details

Aim

The aim of the course is to cover the main netball rules, controlling the game and other issues that a novice umpire might encounter. The course involves both discussion and practical sessions with plenty of opportunity for questions.

Eligibility

Anybody affiliated to All England Netball Association aged 16 or over. No playing or umpiring experience is necessary, though an understanding of the basic rules is helpful.

Objectives

1. To provide a recognised Umpiring Award permitting local league umpiring.

2. To enable an novice umpire to start to umpire confidently and knowledgeably.

3. To provide a forum where clarifications of rules can be raised and discussed.

4. To provide practical experience of umpiring.

5. To promote correct umpiring terminology and hand signals.

6. To provide practical tips and hints for successful umpiring.

Dates for courses:

Saturday 17th October 2009 and Sunday 29th November 2009 10-4.

The club can assist with funding if needed: each costs £25 which includes England Netball Umpiring Resource pack and Rule book, worth £8.50.
